Jock Thomson was educated at Robert Douglas Memorial School,
Scone, Perth Academy and Edinburgh University - where he was winner
of the T P Macdonald Prize.
He has an interesting and varied background in that he left
school at the age of 15, and went to sea for a number of years. He
then joined Perth City/Tayside Police where he served as a
Detective Constable for some years before successfully completing
the Accelerated Promotion Course at The Scottish Police College in
After graduating in Law, Jock joined the Procurator Fiscal
Service and was a Depute in the Borders - Selkirk, Jedburgh and
Peebles - and ultimately a Senior Depute Fiscal in Glasgow.
Since coming to the Bar he has practised mainly in the field of
Criminal Law representing clients throughout the country in all
manner of serious cases at all levels mainly in the High Court but
also in the Sheriff Court and Court of Criminal Appeal.
