About Us

With the foundation of the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh in 1532 administrative groups of advocates known as stables were formed, which by tradition continue to be situated in the capital city.

Mackinnon Advocates was established in 1990 in Edinburgh but as our fulcrum increasingly devolved to the West of Scotland where many of their members live and work, the decision was taken in 2007 to establish the stable in Glasgow.

A respect for diversity has always been a core ethos of Mackinnon Advocates. Mackinnon Advocates was formed to include the pre-eminent Scottish criminal practitioners and does so today. In recent years Mackinnon Advocates has also become home to highly regarded civil practitioners with an extensive range of skills. These can be seen in the areas of practice detailed on our home page.

As with all Edinburgh based stables, Mackinnon Advocates are affiliated to the Faculty of Advocates and receive the benefit of administrative support from Faculty Services Ltd – the Faculty company which provides for the issuing and collection of fees, a credit control service and various other support functions.

Mackinnon Advocates are proud of the standards they have steadfastly maintained in an ever changing legal profession and are confident that the advice and advocacy their members provide will remain second to none.
